Recently, I posted a review of some CBD oils I’d been given to try out, and it’s safe to say I was impressed. So when I was asked by a guest writer if I’d be up for sharing some more information on the pros and cons of CBD oil, naturally I said yes! If the review has caught your interest and you’d like to find out more about some of the perks I previously mentioned, read on to give your CBD knowledge a boost.
CBD oil (or Cannabidiol) has really skyrocketed in popularity this year. Despite this, there is still a lot of conflicting information available online about its use and benefits. There’s been some controversy surrounding CBD oil use, mainly due to common misconceptions about whether the oil is legal and/or safe. Rest assured, it definitely is!
CBD oil is extracted from the cannabis plant, but contains over fifty times less THC than cannabis itself – and it’s THC that produces the psychoactive effects that cannabis is known for. So if you are considering using CBD and are put off by the thought of inadvertently feeling unwanted effects, you don’t have to worry in the slightest. It’s important to keep in mind that this oil is not used as a drug but as a nutritional supplement.
Despite there being so much positive research and results surrounding the oil, it’s always wise to take into account CBD oil’s pros and cons before buying, to make sure it’s definitely right for you.
As the oil has risen in popularity, it now comes in a wide range of forms. Companies like Natural Hemp Co offer CBD oil as drops, pastes, e-liquids, crystals or balms so you can incorporate it into your daily lifestyle in a way that suits you down to the ground. If you like experimenting with new oils when cooking, note that this oil is best used when baking as it naturally has a bitter taste… easily disguisable with lots of sugar! But without further ado, let’s kick off the CBD oil pros and cons…
Pros of CBD Oil
There are thousands of supposed health benefits from using CBD, both physical and mental. For example, it’s claimed to help with anything from nausea, chronic pain and dementia to depression and anxiety.
-
Physical health benefits
Some of the most important pros of CBD oil are its physical health benefits. Generally, CBD oil is claimed to put the body in a state of balance. Doesn’t that sound fabulous? We all need some degree of balance in our lives, but for some it’s more tricky than others. CBD oil can have positive effects on a range of physical disorders, such as its proven ability to reduce chronic pain and lessen the impact of seizure disorders.
This miracle oil has been found to have particularly positive effects for those with autoimmune diseases, due to its anti-inflammatory properties. For example, it’s recommended as a natural treatment to try for multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, lupus and psoriasis.
-
Mental health benefits
As well as helping to relieve the symptoms of a range of physical disorders, CBD oil has been praised by many for its positive effects on mental health. In particular, it activates serotonin receptors in the brain which helps to produce an antidepressant effect. While different things work for different people and there’s no one-size-fits-all for mental health, it certainly can’t hurt to see if CBD oil could help you.
Another mental health issue which there thankfully seems to be increasing awareness about in today’s society is anxiety. CBD oil has been found to help treat multiple types of anxiety disorder, such as generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) and social anxiety disorder (SAD). Studies have found that CBD increases self-confidence – for example, in typically anxiety-inducing situations like public speaking.
-
Easy to use
Another definite pro to add to this list of CBD oil pros and cons is how easy it is to use. The increasing number of forms to take or use the oil in mean that people can use it how they feel most comfortable.
If people feel as though the dosage is more controllable in liquid form, they may want to simply use a drop under the tongue every morning. However, you might be an avid baker and prefer to use it in your cake creations. Whoever you are, whatever your interests and whatever it is you would like the CBD oil to help with… it’s fully adaptable to suit you.
-
Natural – no pesticides
A final pro but one that is by no means less important than the rest, is that CBD oil is a natural and organic product. As a natural product, all its therapeutic benefits are fully natural too.
CBD oil reacts with your body’s ordinary chemicals to produce positive effects – you don’t have to worry about any nasty ingredients sneaking their way in, and there are no pesticides to worry about whatsoever.
Cons of CBD Oil
As you can probably tell, CBD oil definitely deserves its positive new reputation. It’s already improving the quality of life of many people struggling with problems that conventional treatments cannot treat effectively.
However despite this, it’s important to take into account any potential side effects or negative effects that could occur too. Although there aren’t many!
-
Drowsiness
A common side effect of a number of frequently used medicines and remedies is drowsiness. This may be a potential side effect of using CBD oil too, however if you are only using the recommended dosage it shouldn’t be an issue. To make sure you avoid drowsiness, it would be best to start off with the smallest possible dose for your particular product and work your way up.
Finding the best dose depends on you and the issue you would like CBD oil to help with, but shouldn’t take long to perfect.

Everyone feels the effects differently
Another thing to keep in mind which could be considered to be on the ‘con’ side of these CBD oil pros and cons… Everybody’s reaction is slightly different. This is due to the oil reacting with your body’s chemical composition, which is unique in every person. It may take some experimenting with dosage to figure out the daily amount that works best for you.
This isn’t really a negative, but it means you should be aware that following strict dosage instructions might not cut it with CBD oil. Whereas with traditional medicines it’s best to stick to what the doctor ordered, you may find that more or less CBD than other people take gives you better results.
There are a range of uses and benefits that can come along with incorporating CBD oil into your daily life, and hopefully this kindly contributed guest post has helped to clear up any misconceptions or doubts you might have had.
